Many scales lack the width or length to properly support portafilters. The Acaia Pearl is one of the exceptions both with its good width and the padded upper mat it comes with, however, the portafilter can still slide off and again for most scales more space is needed. Enter the Portafilter Platform, these handy and good lookin pieces can help stabilize your portafilter while you get your ideal coffee dose for your espresso.

Two of my all time favorite woods to work with, look at and and think about are walnut and maple. They are both hard woods which means they are sturdy and will last pretty much forever if cared for. They also have some of the most interesting and beautiful wood grains that you can find. I also decided to add some blue mixed epoxy to this piece as there was a wood defect on the corner. The finish is a homemade mixture of beeswax and mineral oil.
